Samsung officially retiring Bada, will make Tizen phones instead

What started off as speculation and was soon to be inevitable, is finally official.

Samsung is giving up on the Bada OS but instead of sweeping its remains under the carpet, the Korean manufacturer will integrate its Bada OS into the Tizen OS project. This is first-hand information comeing from Hong Won-pyo, President of Samsung's Media Solutions Center.

Though smartphones running Bada won't be able to upgrade to Tizen when it's ready, the latter will be backwards compatible with Bada apps, which is good news for every new OS with a low profile app catalog.

Following Nokia's decision not to support MeeGo, the Tizen OS emerged as the open source project to realize all that exciting potential. Samsung are clearly hoping to use the platform in a bid to set themselves apart from the Android and Windows Phone crowd.

Samsung to announce Galaxy S IV on March 14

Samsung has announced that they will be unveiling the next generation Galaxy S smartphone, colloquially called the Galaxy S IV, on March 14 at their Unpacked event, confirming some of the rumors we have been hearing right.

The Unpacked event is said to take place in New York City, unlike the Galaxy S III launch event which was set in London, and will be the first US launch event for Samsung in three years. Samsung says they were "bombarded with requests from U.S. mobile carriers to unveil the Galaxy S IV in the country", hence the change of venue this year.

As for the phone itself, we are still dealing with rumors that suggest a 4.99-inch 1080p display, quad-core Qualcomm processor and a 13 megapixel camera. We'll see how much of this comes to be true in a couple of weeks from now.

Upcoming Nokia Asha phone design leaks

The Nokia event at the Mobile World Congress is about to kick off but before anything is officially announced we already have some pictures of a new Asha phone that is supposed to be unveiled today.

There is no information available about the device, including its name, other than this image. The only bit of specs we can confirm from the image is a 5 megapixel rear facing camera and dual-SIM support. You can also see a transparent case for the device in some shots.

The phone has a new design that is a slight departure from previous Asha phones and is closer to the look of Nokia's Lumia phones. There is also a new dedicated back button below the display, which replaces the call and end keys on previous Asha phones.

Samsung Galaxy S4 to be unveiled on March 14 in New York

We just got yet another report that the Samsung Galaxy S IV will be announced in mid March. The rumored upcoming flagship smartphone of the South Korean manufacturer is going to be unveiled on March, according to a report by Mobile Review's Eldar Murtazin.

Now Mr. Murtazin's reports have been more of a miss than hit recently, but this particular info aligns with previous rumors brought by SamMobile, so there might be truth to it. The report also says that Samsung's Unpacked event will be held in New York, which if true, will make the Galaxy S IV the first flagship of the company to debut outside of Europe.
So far we know that the Samsung Galaxy S IV will sport a 4.99" Super AMOLED display of Full HD resolution, an Exynos 5 Octa chipset with 8-core processor, 8-core Mali-T678 GPU, 2 GB RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. LG announces Optimus Pro G for the Korean market

LG took the wraps off the Optimus Pro G last week but the announcement was curiously devoid of any useful specifications. Now, the company has announced the phone for the Korean market and thankfully, there are now some specs for us to drool at.

You may already be acquainted with the 5.5-inch, 1920 x 1080 resolution display on the Optimus Pro G, which LG says is the largest on any of its phones yet. The display is surrounded by a narrow bezel, which makes the phone 76.1mm wide, narrower than the Galaxy Note II, which is 80.5mm wide and has an identically sized display.
Inside, the Optimus G Pro runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset, with a 1.6GHz quad-core Krait 300 CPU and Adreno 320 GPU, the first phone on the market to do so. Then there is 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory, with a microSD card slot. The Optimus G Pro runs on Android 4.1, Jelly Bean.

HTC has felt that teasing its upcoming One smartphone in a quick video just wasn't enough and has decided to release some additional photos.

The photos in question hint at the phone's features such as the phone's mouthwatering ultrapixel camera, quad-core processor and stereo speakers. The speakers will even be front-mounted if the leaked press photos of the device turn out real and not a hoax.
Check out the photos and tell us if you can make out any other clues to the HTC One specs sheet.

According to some rumors, the latest flagship device from HTC will be up for grabs starting from March 22 and the smartphone will be priced at $300 for 64 GB variant and $200 for the 32 GB model in the US. Naturally, those prices only come if you are willing to sign a two-year contract.
The time when we'll get to know all there is to the HTC One is tomorrow at the company's simultaneous

Huawei Ascend P2 to be water and dust protected

Huawei is either not that good in keeping secrets or not trying too hard to do so. Even before the CES press conference we already knew almost everything about the Ascend D2 and Mate. It seems the case will be similar to the upcoming MWC event, where Huawei is expected to unveil the Ascend P2.
The upcoming smartphone will feature smaller (compared to the D2) 4.5-inch 1080p screen and will run on a chipset with a quad-core 1.8GHz processor. The camera department will be the same as on the D2 - a 13MP snapper with 1080p video recording. We even got to see the first live photos of the smartphone a while ago.
Today's scoop from rumorland brings another live shot of the Huawei Ascend P2, along with an interesting bit about its specs sheet. The smartphone will reportedly be dust and water protected. The Ascend P2 will be carry IP54 certification, which means it will be protected from just from water splashes, not water submersion.

The body of the phone consists of 184 individual parts and each unit has been built by a signgle one of the company's craftsmen in England. The side key on the left-hand side has an V-shaped in-set ruby to highlight the brand's traditional design language.

The sales of the LG-built Google Nexus 4 have reached a million units, according to the owners of the smartphones. The members on the XDA Developer forum have worked a way out to make an educated guess on the smartphone shipments on the basis of its IMEI number.

LG and Google have managed to sell over a million units in a little over two months and with all the supply shortages, the figure seems decent. Google has declined to comment on the latest Nexus 4 sales, but the internet giants seem to be quite happy with the performance of the handset.

The BlackBerry Z10 – the flagship of the company’s brand new OS – launched in the UK at the end of January, a day after its official announcement. And it sold better than any other BlackBerry in the UK, ever.

Here’s what CEO Thorsten Heins had to say about the UK launch: "In the UK, we have seen close to three times our best performance ever for the first week of sales for a BlackBerry smartphone."

The Z10 launch in Canada, BlackBerry’s home turf, came several days later – February 5 – and it was another record. "In Canada, [Tuesday] was the best day ever for the first day of a launch of a new BlackBerry smartphone. In fact, it was more than 50 percent better than any other launch day in our history in Canada," says Heins.

Pink Galaxy Note II spotted on Samsung's website

We have seen pink colored versions of Samsung's smartphones before. There was the pink Galaxy S III and then the pink Galaxy Note before that. Now it's the turn of the new Galaxy Note II to go pink.

The entire front and back of the phone gets the new shade of pink, which is lighter than the one we saw on the original Note. The stylus also gets the new color treatment. Other than that the phone is identical to the other color models.
Samsung is yet to announce the phone and so far it exists only on the company's Taiwanese website. More details regarding availability should be released soon.

Samsung Galaxy S IV rumored to be announced on March 15

Samsung's next generation Galaxy S flagship smartphone will be launched on March 15, according to a "trusted" insider, who has confirmed the arrival to SamMobile. Earlier, an internal raffle doc leak at a New Zealand retailer had suggested that the device might be available from April, but we can now expect the smartphone to hit the stores from the beginning of April.

We already know Samsung's Unpacked event won't happen at the MWC, but the company is expected to send the invites after the conclusion of the industry's largest event.

Samsung's 2013 flagship smartphone is rumored to sport a Super AMOLED display of FullHD resolution and a whopping 8-core Exynos 5 Octa processor, 8-core Mali-T658 GPUand 2 GB of RAM. A 13-megapixel rear camera with the ability to shoot 1080p full HD videos at 30 fps will be mounted at the back, while 2-megapixel front camera will take care of video-calls. Huawei Ascend P2 blurry shots leak, price in tow

Two spy shots of Huawei's upcoming Ascend P2 leaked. The phone has been rumored to sport a 5" 1080p screen, later a 4.5" one and now rumors suggest a 4.7" at the front.

Others information suggests that the Huawei Ascend P2 will be powered by an 8-core processor, which will probably be along the lines of Samsung's big.LITTLE chip where four Cortex-A15s handle big loads while four Cortex-A7s are there for the power saving.

The leaked images align nicely with the leaked official photo of the Ascend P2 we've seen.
The camera on the back of the device has been hidden in these images, which inclines us to think that the Ascend P2 could sport an above 13 MP snapper. It could be just a coincidence, though.

Nokia to bring out a Lumia device with 41-megapixel sensor

Nokia's 41-megapixel sensor, which was showcased for the first time at MWC 2012, bought a whole new dimension to the cameraphone game. After its recent success with the 808 PureView, Nokia will be bringing its class-leading 41-megapixel sensor to its Lumia lineup.

New reports from The Guardian back up previous rumors that the 41-megapixel Lumia device will be dubbed EOS, and the smartphone is expected to launch in the summer in the US. Unfortunately, there are no confirmations on the specifications of the device yet.

The Lumia EOS is expected to capture images with about 5 megapixel resolution, using oversampling, just like the 808 PureView did in its default Auto mode.

The latest Nokia Lumia 920 comes out with a floating lens technology, which is actual optical image stabilization - a first for a smartphone.

Galaxy Nexus sales resume as court denies Apple's request

The rivalry between the Apple and Samsung had led to an injunction on the Samsung's Galaxy Nexus, which was reversed later by an appeals court. Apple had then asked the court to reconsider, but the case is now over as Apple's request has been demised.
The US court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, motivated its decision from today with the fact that all the nine judges of the Appeals Court reconsidered the sales ban.
The conflict was based on Apple's 604 patent, which was initially infringed by the Galaxy Nexus. The violation was by the unified search, which was implemented on the Galaxy Nexus and to justify its request, Apple had to demonstrate that the consumer demand was directly tied with the infringing functionality. Apple's task was cut out as it was a real ask given the features on the smartphones.
